BCIT New Media Redesign Website
The BCIT Site is a microsite for the BCIT New Media Design and Web Development program. This project was done within a group, the jobs were separated into project manager, content manager, graphic designer and developer. I was given the job of content manager, where I was to collect data content for the site and I had to write the Information Architect for the site.
The research is done to determine the goal of the site, the users of the site, the competitors of the site and how items can be put or categorize better. The site was compared to the actual live BCIT, the current BCIT gives no differentiation for all the programs. So the site that was needed has to be very narrowed to the New Media Design program. Some important factors that are needed was to show the program has real people with real experience and this gives a heurestic credibilty behind the site. Interaction and social networking is also a factor to bring traffic to the site. This was all written with an Information Architect document. It is the information Architect that determines all factors of the site, how the will be better categorized, what kind of global and local navigation and their labels are to be used and also the functional requirements of the site (ie Flash or Javascript). The wireframe was done to show how items were to be placed in the site. A site map is created to designate and categorize the site.
Content was gathered from using important registering information from the live BCIT site. The real person with real experience creditibiliy was given importance of the site and this gives information of past students, their work and their experience of the program. As all content was collected and Information Architect was done, the project was then passed to the programmer and the graphic designer to complete the esthetic of the site
